Hojicha belongs to a group of the roasted green teas. Thanks to roasting it gets brown and has a distinctive aroma with walnut to cinnamon undertones. It is grown similarly to Sencha under direct sunlight. A large amount of catechin, which has antioxidant effects, accumulates in its leaves as protection against UVB radiation. During roasting, caffeine is almost eliminated from the tea leaves. Therefore, Hojicha is suitable for all-day and evening sipping and can be enjoyed in limited amounts by women and children.
